Calculate GST instantly with CGST, SGST, and IGST breakdown. Add or remove GST from any amount.
Intra-state: CGST + SGST applies when buyer & seller are in the same state.
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple cascading taxes and unified the Indian market.
CGST & SGST are charged equally (each half of the GST rate) on intra-state transactions. IGST (equal to the full GST rate) applies to inter-state transactions.
Common GST slabs: 0% (essentials), 5% (basic necessities), 12% (standard goods), 18% (most services & goods), 28% (luxury & sin goods).
This GST Calculator adds or removes Goods and Services Tax on any amount and instantly splits the tax into CGST, SGST, and IGST components as required under India's GST regime. Enter a base or gross amount, pick a rate (0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%, or any custom rate), and choose whether the figure is exclusive of tax (GST-added) or inclusive of tax (GST-removed) to see the net amount, tax amount, and grand total.
It is built for shopkeepers, freelancers, accountants, and small-business owners who need to prepare invoices, reverse-calculate tax from an MRP, or verify a supplier's tax breakup. For intra-state supply it shows the CGST and SGST halves; for inter-state supply it shows the single IGST figure.
To ADD GST to a base amount, the tax is a simple percentage of the net value: GST = Net x Rate / 100, and Gross = Net + GST. For example, an 18% GST on a net amount of 1,000 gives GST = 180 and a gross of 1,180.
To REMOVE GST from a tax-inclusive figure, the calculator works backwards using the formula: Net = Gross x 100 / (100 + Rate). The GST is then Gross minus Net. For example, extracting 18% from a gross of 1,180 gives Net = 1,180 x 100 / 118 = 1,000 and GST = 180.
The CGST and SGST split applies only to intra-state (same-state) transactions, where each equals half the total GST rate - so 18% becomes 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. For inter-state transactions a single IGST is charged at the full rate (18%). The total tax collected is identical in both cases; only the way it is reported and shared between the central and state governments differs.
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are levied together on transactions within the same state, each taking half of the total rate. IGST (Integrated GST) is charged as a single tax on transactions between different states and covers the full rate.
Select the 'Remove GST' mode and enter the tax-inclusive amount. The tool divides by (100 + rate) and multiplies by 100 to find the net value, then shows the tax portion separately.
It supports the standard Indian slabs of 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, and you can also enter any custom percentage if your product or service falls under a special rate.
Yes. It gives you the taxable value, the CGST/SGST or IGST amounts, and the grand total, which are exactly the figures you need on a GST-compliant tax invoice. Always confirm the correct HSN/SAC rate for your goods or service.
It is completely free with no sign-up required. All calculations run locally in your browser, so the amounts you enter are never uploaded or stored on any server.
No. The total GST amount is the same either way. Intra-state simply splits it into equal CGST and SGST halves, while inter-state shows it as one IGST figure.
Because the gross amount already contains the tax, you cannot simply subtract the rate. You must reverse the addition using Net = Gross x 100 / (100 + Rate), otherwise the extracted tax would be overstated.
